Beautifully carved Victorian shell cameo, Italian, circa 1860s. Depicting Peace halting the horses of War. After a painting by French artist Benigne Gagneraux, 1794. A very similar cameo by Saulini is featured in Jewellery in the age of Queen Victoria. 480, where the Genie of Peace is mis-identified as Phaeton. The cameo is signed at the back, please see the photo. Size: 2.4″ (6cm) x 2″ (5cm) wide. There’s a couple of faint stress lines, but the cameo is all solid. The frame that goes around is 9ct gold (tested). The pin is made from metal. The pin works well. Check out my other items!
